Ten Students Receive
Scholarships From
West Texas Agricultural Chemicals Institute

LUBBOCK -- The West Texas Agricultural
Chemicals Institute (WTACI) today awarded 10 college scholarships
totaling $7,500 at its 50th annual educational conference at the
Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.
Founded here in 1953, the institute is
a consortium of educators, producers, chemical company dealers and
representatives, and other agribusiness leaders.
The institute focuses on promoting environmentally sound use of
pesticides and other ag chemicals needed in high-yield agriculture.
Since 1983, the institute has presented
more than $55,000 in college scholarships (funded by its conferences
and gifts) to more than 60 agriculture students attending several
universities.
This years scholarship recipients included
five undergraduate graduate students. They are:
James W. Humphreys,
a wildlife and fisheries major at Texas Tech, $500.
Jeffrey Kleypas, an
agronomy student at Texas Tech, $750.
Daniel Olivier, an
agronomy student at Texas Tech, $1,000.
Kelsey L. Overton,
a horticulture major at Texas Tech, $500.
Joshua Tunnell, ag
development student at Texas A&M University, $750.

The institute also awarded five scholarships
to graduate students.
Graduate recipients included:
Brent Burns, an agronomy student at Texas Tech, $750.
Edsel Bynum, Jr., an
agronomy student at Texas Tech, $1,000.
Jason Jerrell, an integrated
pest management major at West Texas
A&M University,
$750.
Alan Peters, an agronomy
student at Texas Tech, $750.
Wesley Ralston, a crop
science major at Texas Tech, $750.
